Lake Wanaka, Queenstown

After the Franz Josef Glacier we made our way to Lake Wanaka and because the weather was nice again we decided to go camping again and we found a really nice campground right at the beginning of Lake Wanaka. These so called DOC Campsites ususally just have a composting toilet and cold water (sometimes even drinking water and sometimes cold showers). But that's enough if you only stay for a night or two.
It was a beatiful spot at the lake and we cooked some rice with vegetables on our portable gas stove and we could even make hot water for tea. We had a wander around the lake in the evening and unfortunately the wind picked up in the night but we had the tent pretty good fixed with ropes so we were safe. It started raining in the morning but it wasn't really cold so after we had breakfast outside under a shelter we went back to the tent where we were dry and warm and had another nap. It was so nice and cozy as you can see:

After spending half the day in the tent we drove to Wanaka to the other end of the lake.
We went on a campground there as well but with all facilities like hot showers and kitchen etc...

The second night in the tent at Lake Wanka was freezing cold. Temperatures dropped by at least 10 degrees and it rained the whole night. Fortunately, the rain stopped in the morning and the sun came out so we could dry the tent and our stuff. We packed everything up and drove from Wanaka to Queenstown. A busy touristic city with heaps of activities to do like skydiving, rafting, bungee jumping etc...but everything is so expensive. We just spent two easy days there and we had a look at the first bungee jump bridge in the world as well.
