Golden Bay, Murchison, Westport, Greymouth, Punakaiki 21.-26.02.2012

After spending two nights at the campground in the Abel Tasman National Park in a town called Kaiteriteri, we drove up to Golden Bay where we stayed for one night at another campsite right at the top of the South Island (Farewell Spit). Unfortunately the weather wasn't really good, grey sky and lots of clouds and it even started raining in the morning but we stayed dry in the tent which was good :-)
The next day we made our way to Murchison and we found a really nice hostel "The lazy cow" where we stayed for two night because it didn't stop raining at all. We met lots of nice people and even though it was raining we had a good time.
Just the sandflies are driving me absolutely nuts here. I got so many bites already and they are itchy like hell...

Leaving Murchison we went to Westport and from there to Tauranga Bay to have a look at a seal colony at the beach:

Afterwards we drove to Punakaiki to a hostel right at the beach. There we walked to the Pancake Rocks and the Blowholes. Luckily, the sun came out in the afternoon.

From Punakaiki we made our way to Greymouth where we stayed one night and from there we drove all the way to the Franz Josef Glacier Village. Actually we wanted to camp there but it was rainy when we arrived and too cold for camping so we decided to stay in a warm hostel :-)
